Green Light for Scunthorpe General Hospital’s £27m ‘Energy Centre’: A Step Towards a Greener NHS

Scunthorpe General Hospital has received approval for its ambitious ‘energy centre’, positioning it as one of the most eco-friendly NHS facilities across the country. The proposed two-storey building will host an electric-powered boiler system, replacing the currently used gas-fired boilers. This aligns with the NHS’s extensive investment of over £27m in the hospital to bolster its environmental credentials. Residents in the vicinity can expect improved air quality due to the shift in boiler systems, among other benefits. The energy centre will be situated at the eastern edge of the hospital grounds, replacing a modular office and workshop building. Alongside the modern boiler system, the new building will also accommodate staff offices and a workshop area. The NHS Humber Health Partnership, comprising Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (HUTH), has assured locals that efforts will be made to minimise noise and disruption during the anticipated summer demolition. Other recent planning developments in North Lincolnshire include the refusal of a 13-home development in Haxey and a controversial proposal to convert a former Bottesford pharmacy into a fast-food chicken outlet, sparking concerns over parking and anti-social behaviour.
