In a staggering revelation, Openreach, a leading broadband technology provider, claims that a significant number of Grimsby residents are missing out on the benefits of upgraded full fibre broadband. It is estimated that around 23,000 households and businesses in the town are eligible for the upgrade, yet only a fifth have actually made the switch.
Openreach, the UK’s largest broadband network, supports over 700 service providers, including household names such as BT, SKY, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and Zen, offering broadband, TV, phone, data, and mobile services. With the ability to connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds, their technology is designed to facilitate online business trade and competition for years to come.
Kasam Hussain, Openreach’s regional director for Lincolnshire, emphasises the benefits of the full fibre broadband, stating ‘Fast and reliable full fibre broadband gives households and businesses a significant boost.’ He further urged residents to check their eligibility for upgrades, noting that ‘upgrades don’t happen automatically. People need to order it to take advantage of the technology.’
Openreach aims to extend the full fibre network to 25 million homes and businesses across the UK by the end of 2026. Furthermore, they assert that packages from broadband providers are becoming more competitively priced, potentially offering improved service at a cost similar to, or even less than, current bills.
