A devoted faction of Boston United supporters have sprung into action with a fundraising initiative to finance the much-needed refurbishment of the club’s pitch. The Lincolnshire-based team is set to transition to full-time play from the next season, a move which will undoubtedly strain the club’s finances. In an effort to alleviate this burden, the Boston United Supporters Association (BUSA) seeks to offset the costs of maintaining the pitch. The total renovation of the pitch at Jakemans Community Stadium comes with a hefty price tag of £60,000, according to the association. A crowdfunding goal of £30,000 has been established, with BUSA kickstarting the campaign by generously contributing the first £5,000. The campaign has already reached over £7,000. If the halfway mark of £30,000 is reached, the drive will push forward with an aim to foot the entire £60,000 bill. BUSA chair, Steve Slater, voiced the association’s commitment to aiding the club in this challenging time. He reinforced the importance of enabling groundsman Jim Portas to carry out this essential work and expressed confidence in the support of their passionate fan base. Slater also reflected on the need for innovative fundraising approaches, stating, ‘We can only host so many bingo and race nights. To raise a significant sum, we need to think outside the box. Our loyal fans are eager to support the club, and this campaign provides them with the perfect opportunity to do so.’
