A Lincoln couple’s night-time peace has been severely disrupted due to a neighbour’s persisting Christmas lights display, which continues to flash brightly into spring. Richard Bartlett and Caroline Levesque-Bartlett, residing in St Andrew’s Drive, have resorted to employing blackout curtains to attempt to block the intrusive light, but to little avail. The couple has been battling for the removal of the out-of-season festive illuminations for months. The display features several ground level lights and a twinkling Christmas tree on the porch roof, closely aligned with the couple’s bedroom windows.
Richard expressed their frustration, noting that while they initially had no objections to the festive display, it has become a nuisance with the lights remaining up well beyond the festive season. The bright LEDs, situated outside their living room window, have disrupted their daily activities and sleep.
Caroline shared her experience, stating that the lights often remain illuminated throughout the night, with no consistent pattern. The couple reported the issue to the council in late January, but claimed they received mixed responses.
Ben Jackson of the City of Lincoln Council, assured that the council takes such matters seriously and is prepared to intervene if necessary. The complaint remains open, and a revisit to the property has been planned.
It’s worth noting that while not illegal, councils can serve notices for the removal of Christmas lights if they are interfering with other residents’ health or property use. The local council reports that the lights have now been turned off, but the residents remain doubtful.
