Gainsborough’s New Cinema Set to Light Up Summer

Gainsborough’s much-anticipated Savoy cinema is on track to welcome film enthusiasts this summer. The £9m project, situated in the heart of Market Place, is expected to be a significant addition to the local culture and economy, combining a four-screen cinema, two retail shops, and a restaurant. Savoy Cinemas, with seven existing venues, including in Boston and Grantham, is behind this venture. The cinema’s operations manager, Wayne Gregory, has confirmed that the cinema will be creating 20 to 30 new job opportunities, both permanent and seasonal. Locals have expressed mixed views on the project. Paula Dowe, 57, feels the town needs more attractions to draw people in, while Darren Harris, 53, believes the cinema will be a significant boost for local businesses. Gregory, who is currently overseeing the project’s final stages, remains optimistic, even though there is still a lot of work to be done before the official opening.
