Title: Dashcam Footage Reveals Reckless Driving in Humberside
Disturbing dashcam footage has brought to light multiple occurrences of dangerous driving within the Humber region, inciting response from the police. Multiple instances of risky behaviour, including sudden braking and ill-judged overtaking, have been caught on camera across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire leading to fines for those drivers implicated.
Sudden braking or ‘brake checking’, where a driver abruptly slows down to incite a response from the vehicle behind, significantly increases the possibility of a collision. One such recorded incident featured a driver speeding in a populated area, subsequently leading to a year-long ban on driving. Another video showcased a driver carelessly driving on the wrong side of the road.
The Humberside Police are encouraging the public to report such instances through their secure online platform, ‘Operation Snap’. This initiative is specifically aimed at addressing dangerous driving, but it isn’t intended for reporting road traffic collisions or public order offences. Police officers review submitted digital media and related statements to ascertain any offences, this, in turn, can lead to the issuance of prosecution notices for vehicle owners within two weeks of submitting the claim.
‘Operation Snap’ can be utilised to report a multitude of traffic violations, including dangerous and careless driving, the use of handheld mobile phones whilst driving, seatbelt infringements, disregard for traffic lights, amongst other contraventions. Over the course of the last year, an unfortunate 32 individuals have lost their lives on the roads within this region, with several others suffering from serious, life-changing injuries.
The public is recommended to report incidents of road rage either through the online portal or by dialling 101, keeping the 999 number exclusive for emergencies.
