Barton Dad Triumphs in Weight Loss Journey, Prepares for First Marathon

Mathew Brown, a 32-year-old father residing in Barton, finds himself on the brink of embarking on the Edinburgh Marathon, a testament to his inspiring journey of weight loss. Not more than three years ago, Mathew found himself struggling for breath as he played with his toddler in the garden, with his weight hovering over 20 stone.

Wanting to improve his health, Mathew joined Scunthorpe’s MAN v FAT club, a dedicated programme aimed at aiding men to shed weight through football. Today, after having lost over seven stone, Mathew’s weight is now a little over 13 stone, and he finds himself ready to face a marathon. Mathew’s ambitions stretch beyond achieving personal goals, he also aspires to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, after witnessing a family member’s battle with the disease.

Mathew’s transformative journey has not only positively affected his physical health, but it has also enhanced his family life by facilitating a more active lifestyle. His story serves as a powerful reminder of what community support and sheer determination can do, while inspiring others to take the first step towards a healthier existence.
