Scunthorpe Set for ‘Big Wow!’ with New Children’s Science Centre

Title: Scunthorpe Prepares for Exciting New Children’s Science Centre

North Lincolnshire Council has achieved listed building consent to revamp St John’s Church in Scunthorpe into a state-of-the-art children’s science and technology hub. Known as Discover@20-21, this £2.5 million enterprise will showcase a striking attraction, backed by the Government Towns Fund. The centre is set to unveil its doors later this year, adjacent to the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, guaranteeing interactive displays and advanced facilities.

Crucial installations will comprise window dressings, a flexible gallery lighting system, projector screens, and window-inserted projection panels. All features are innovatively conceived, promoting young minds’ engagement with the marvels of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. A council representative emphasised the centre’s ambition to inspire creativity and problem-solving skills among young individuals.

In addition, the venue will be equipped to handle sizeable exhibits like the Museum of The Moon by Luke Jerram, enhancing cultural involvement and contributing to local renewal. Initially discontinued as a place of worship in 1984, St John’s Church has since blossomed into a dynamic cultural venue following the inauguration of the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in 2001.
