Debate Ignites Over Sale of Grimsby Fire Station

Fears are mounting amongst local representatives and inhabitants in response to the proposed sale of Cromwell Road Fire Station in Grimsby. The proposal, issued by the Humberside Fire Authority, concerns a strategic reinvestment plan recently accepted. The Grimsby representative, Councillor Matt Patrick, is advocating for guarantees that relocated services will effectively cater to future requirements. According to the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, there is no anticipated impact on the number of firefighters, fire engines or response times in Grimsby and neighbouring areas as a result of this decision.

The proposed sale is set to occur as part of the 2029-30 investment programme and aims to fund an extensive revamp of the Peaks Lane Fire Station. However, queries have been raised by Councillor Patrick on whether the resources at Peaks Lane will be sufficient to meet future exigencies. He is demanding more transparent information before the sale moves forward.

Elsewhere, Councillor Les Bonner has voiced his desire for the former fire station to be repurposed as a community centre. There are, however, currently no organisations able to take on such responsibility. In the meantime, the fire service reassures that community groups who were once accommodated in the facility have been re-directed to alternative buildings.
