Seal Sighting Turns Out to Be Rocky Misunderstanding

Title: Cleethorpes Seal SOS Call Revealed as Quirky Mix-up

In an amusing misunderstanding on the North East Lincolnshire coastline, a wildlife rescue team was called to assist what was believed to be a seal in distress, only to find out it was a large, seal-shaped piece of stone. Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue reacted swiftly to a panicked phone call from a resident this past Sunday, who conveyed concerns about what seemed to be a stranded seal. A vet in collaboration with two volunteers went on a search of the beach only to discover that the seal was, in fact, a rather benign rock.

The team’s lead rescuer, Aaron Goss, praised the citizen for maintaining distance from the alleged seal and reaching out to professionals. He acknowledged, “Indeed the rock did mimic a seal quite well, so the resident absolutely did the right thing.”

Even though the situation was light-hearted, Goss insisted that the caller’s reaction was exemplary in raising the alarm. He even hypothesised that a seagull flying by may have been responsible for mimicking the crying noises that prompted the original call. Goss recollected a similar incident involving a log mistaken for an animal. The rescue team pushed the message of vigilance, emphasising that all notifications of animals in distress, false alarm or not, must and will always be looked into.
