Lincolnshire Pig Farm Under Fire Amid Cruelty Claims

Operations at Northmoor Farm, located near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, have been temporarily stopped by Cranswick, a main supplier to supermarkets, in light of unsettling video evidence of mistreatment of animals. The disturbing video, which was captured by the Animal Justice Project (AJP) over a lengthy period, purportedly shows employees utilising unlawful methods to terminate piglets, as well as instances of sow maltreatment.

Major supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco, have consequently suspended the use of produce from the farm. Cranswick has promptly initiated an investigation, conveying that the welfare of animals is of utmost importance. The AJP has lodged a formal complaint with trading standard authorities, alleging violation of animal welfare laws.

The controversial footage is currently being examined, with both the Lincolnshire Police and the Animal and Plant Health Agency participating in the ongoing investigation. The AJP is now advocating for a public review into pig farming techniques, whilst also urging a shift away from food production systems dependent on livestock.
