Lincoln City have chosen not to extend the contract of 34-year-old midfielder Sam Clucas. The League One club has, however, extended an invitation to Clucas to potentially join their coaching staff in the future. After spending 15 years away from the club, Clucas returned, only to make eight appearances and net a single goal after joining from Oldham in the National League. His move to Lincoln City happened after he left the league when Rotherham United were relegated from the Championship in the 2023-24 season.
Upon Clucas’s return to Lincoln City, the team’s manager Michael Skubala had praised him for ‘coming home’ as his playing career neared its end. Despite the club finishing 11th in the league, Clucas, along with Tyler Walker, Ali Smith, and Jay Benn were let go. Meanwhile, Lincoln City have made it clear they would be open to welcoming back Clucas in a coaching capacity as and when he decides to transition from playing.
