South Kesteven Council Invests £8m in Green Upgrades for Council Homes

South Kesteven District Council is investing nearly £8 million to enhance the energy efficiency of its council-owned homes. This decision, made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, involves the approval of a contract to outfit around 273 homes with solar panels and low-carbon heating systems. The scheme, which is set to start in June, has the dual purpose of reducing resident utility bills and promoting environmental sustainability.

Cabinet member for Housing Virginia Moran emphasised that this project builds on past eco-initiatives, while council leader Ashley Baxter described the plan as advantageous in multiple ways. The venture has received a £4 million grant from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, effectively matching the council’s £4 million investment.

The contract has been awarded to Equans Building Ltd, with an approximate value of £7.8 million and a duration of three years.
