Lincolnshire has been buzzing with levels of excitement and a palpable sense of community spirit this past week, showcasing an array of music, royalty, scientific exploration, and even a sprinkling of Eurovision sparkle. The week began with Gainsborough’s Laybo’s Fest, an event which successfully managed to combine great music and invaluable dialogue on suicide prevention. Headlined by renowned artists such as Heather Small and Ian Van Dahl, this festival truly reflected Lincolnshire’s dedication to promote life-affirming values and support notable causes.
The county then had the privilege of playing host to royalty when Princess Anne attended the Lincolnshire Show, a major event known for its thrilling livestock competitions. Accompanied by well-known presenter Matt Baker from Countryfile, her visit underscored Lincolnshire’s reputation as a rural treasure.
Eurovision fever gripped the county as residents united to celebrate this global event in a unique, albeit ‘trashy’ fashion. Sequins and snacks were the order of the day, as homes and venues countrywide tuned into the live broadcast of the grand final on Saturday, 17 May, exhibiting a shared sense of enjoyment of music, celebration of diversity, and a sprinkle of harmless fun – a true testament to our lively local spirit.
In Grantham, the Thatcher Centenary Celebrations offered a creative twist with themed beers such as ‘Iron Lady’ and ‘Grantham Lass’, adding an unusual, yet positively distinct touch to the proceedings.
Intellectually stimulating discourse was also on offer at the Pint of Science Festival. This occasion saw researchers share cutting-edge insights with pub-goers, stirring engaging discussions over a friendly pint, or two.
The week wrapped up beautifully, like a well-curated tapestry of blossoms, avians and bicycles. Between the Spalding Flower Parade and a series of cycling events, Lincolnshire showcased the depth of its natural splendour and the engagement of its local community. On the whole, it’s been a triumphant week for Lincolnshire, and it goes without saying, we eagerly anticipate what the following week has in store!
