Lincolnshire locals were recognised for their significant community contributions at a distinguished garden party hosted at Buckingham Palace. The gathering formed part of the BBC Radio Lincolnshire Make A Difference 2024 awards, where recipients had the honour of joining the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Among the distinguished guests was Lincoln’s Emma Sellars, commended for her courage in raising awareness of life with inflammatory bowel disease. Sellars, who received an ulcerative colitis diagnosis in her teenage years, lauded the event as surreal and marked it as a major personal achievement.
Green award recipient, Stuart Wills, expressed his wonderment at being invited to such a significant assembly. Wills was acknowledged for his project “Bourne Bike Donations and Recycle,” which involves restoring and donating bicycles to Lincolnshire’s southern residents. He attended the function with his companion, Karen.
Gypsy Bridge’s Liz Quiney, near Boston, picked up the great neighbour award. Quiney recounted her initial disbelief at receiving the invitation, suspecting it to be a scam. The award was an acknowledgment of her substantial efforts to enhance the quality of life in her local region.
The garden party, hosted by the Prince of Wales representing King Charles, was further graced by the attendance of other royal family members, such as Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall. It was a defining moment for the award recipients from Lincolnshire, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
