Lincolnshire Police have declared their support for a national summer safety drive, focusing on enhancing the safety of motorcycle users, in an attempt to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries. The initiative, known as the “2wheel campaign”, is headed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and aims to promote safety and regulate the practices of both motorcyclists and cyclists. Last year, Lincolnshire recorded 52 deadly road accidents, out of which 14 involved motorcyclists and three pedal cyclists.
Inspector Jason Baxter from the Lincolnshire roads policing team shed light on the vulnerability of two-wheel vehicle users. He pointed out that the risk was especially high on the region’s rural roads, popular amongst such users. Simon Outen-Coe from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, echoed Baxter’s sentiments. He stressed the need for riders to exercise caution as accidents often happened to pre-cautious riders who were not seen by other motorists due to various reasons.
The 2wheel campaign will take place from 2-15 June. It features a BikeSafe workshop scheduled for June 12 in Lincolnshire that offers the opportunity for motorcyclists to refine their road safety skills.
