Teen Hero from North Hykeham Saves Stepdad’s Life with Air Cadet Training

A young woman from North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, has been hailed as a hero for using her air cadets first aid training to save her stepfather’s life. Fifteen-year-old Ellie reacted quickly when her stepfather, Carl, fell unconscious at the bottom of a water slide during a family day out at Splashdown Quaywest Waterpark in Devon on 28 May. Carl, who operates a bicycle repair shop, commended Ellie for her prompt response and life-saving actions. Serving as a sergeant in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets at 1237 North Hykeham Squadron, Ellie expressed her pride in being able to assist and urged others to take first aid courses. Her actions were also praised by her commanding officer, Flying Officer Phil Anelay, who felt immense pride at her bravery and abilities. The water park staff emphasised the vital role her courage played in ensuring Carl’s safety. Following the event, Ellie received an ‘Outstanding Cadet Conduct in First Aid’ award.
