A Week of Unity, Celebration, and Community Spirit in Lincolnshire

The past week in Lincolnshire has been truly remarkable, showing how our local communities can unite in incredible ways. In Grimsby, there was a tremendous display of love and support for the family of the late Damion ‘Damo’ Boarder, a father of four who is greatly missed. This potent display of unity serves as a reminder of the power of our community bonds and the help we can extend in times of grief.

Our local educational sector has also been full of activity. Parents of Year 6 pupils across Lincolnshire have been eagerly brushing up on their knowledge via a SATs quiz. Concurrently, our school staff held a summer ball in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice, highlighting schools’ crucial roles not only in education but also in the wider community life.

On a more jovial note, we’ve seen residents of all ages participating in entertaining events and initiatives, from a paddleboarding event at Cleethorpes beach to the reopening of The Zone, a complimentary youth activity hub in Lincoln.

The themes of preservation and heritage also resonated strongly, with the momentous reopening of Grantham’s medieval landmark, Grantham House, after significant restoration, and our rich Roman history being on show at Wragby’s pop-up museum.

Nevertheless, the week was not devoid of challenges. Concerns about littering at Cleethorpes Armed Forces Weekend give us a stark reminder of our responsibility to protect Lincolnshire’s coastal image. To lighten things up, the relentless efforts of local champions like John Whitbread, who completed a 400-mile charity cycle across Lincolnshire, and a young Grimsby resident donating hair to charity after years of growth, epitomize the resilience and generosity inherent in our community.

Doubtlessly, this past week has been a period of unity, celebration, and community spirit in Lincolnshire that perfectly captures our essence. Whether it is backing our local charities, preserving our history, or extending a hand in times of need, we continually demonstrate that our strength lies in our combined commitment to this remarkable community we lovingly call home.
