In a key boost to North Lincolnshire’s education sector, more than £16 million is earmarked to be utilised for expanding the number of school places and enhancing facilities across the region. This scheme includes the expansion of Baysgarth School in Barton-upon-Humber, with its capacity set to increase from 900 to 1,200 places courtesy of a £7.7 million grant from the Department for Education.
Furthermore, North Lincolnshire Council has put forward plans to augment pre-school provision in a bid to extend childcare for working parents to 30 hours weekly on a national scale. Additionally, a substantial £8.8 million will be set aside to augment support for children who have special educational needs in the area.
Local Councillor Julie Reed expressed the council’s vigorous dedication to providing an education of the highest quality which caters to the needs of every child, stating, “These investments are not just about buildings; they’re about opportunities, inclusion, and the long-term success for our children and young people.”
St Luke’s Primary School in Scunthorpe is also set to benefit from this initiative, receiving additional space to make room for an additional 24 pupils. Numerous other schools in the area are slated to benefit from upgraded heating systems, heightened roof insulation, and double glazing, with everything working towards the overarching goal of reducing carbon emissions.
