The landscape of local governance in Greater Lincolnshire is poised for a pivotal transformation, with eight distinctive plans now on the table. This anticipated shift, dubbed the most substantial restructure in local government for the past fifty years, is all part of the area’s devolution agreement. The government, keen to see a more streamlined and cost-effective system, recently urged councils to put forward their initial proposals for reorganisation by 21 March. The main thrust of the reorganisation is to amalgamate councils into larger unitary bodies, with the expectation of these new bodies surfacing by 2028. The nationwide savings from these changes are projected to be a hefty £2bn. Councils now eagerly await feedback on their bids, due by 28 April, with the final proposals to be submitted by 28 November.
