Residents of Lincolnshire, take heed! Using Facebook community groups as your personal rubbish bin could land you a sizeable fine. County officials are urging folks to ensure their trash is disposed of properly, as fly-tipping continues to plague our lovely shire. Earlier this month, Lincolnshire Police issued a medley of fines and summons, while Boston Borough Council handed out half a dozen £300 penalties for waste offences. John Roberts, a representative from Kingdom Local Authority Support, has issued a stern warning to all: if your items are fly-tipped, you can still be held responsible. He advises folks to ensure the person taking their waste is licensed and to request a collection note. ‘You could be paying for someone to take your rubbish and then they nip around the corner and dump it,’ warns Roberts. Looking for a cheaper disposal option might seem tempting, but it’s a false economy if you’re then slapped with a fly-tipping fine. Surveillance cameras have been installed in some hotspots to thwart the fly-tippers, but items are still being dumped on country lanes and alleyways. A recent multi-agency operation has demonstrated the power of partnership working in keeping our community clean and safe. So folks, remember to play by the rules and dispose of your waste responsibly.
