In a shocking turn of events, a jealous man brandished an imitation firearm at his partner’s mother, who had rushed to her daughter’s aid amidst a domestic scuffle. This distressing incident prompted a swift response from Humberside Police. The drama unfolded in Grimsby, where 25-year-old Kieran Cook, resident of Orchard Drive, admitted to wielding the fake firearm and assaulting his partner on the 26th of October last year, according to proceedings at Grimsby Crown Court. The court heard that the woman’s mother dashed to her daughter’s East Marsh residence after overhearing a violent altercation over the phone, a call which her daughter had made for help. In a fit of jealousy triggered by a Snapchat message on his partner’s phone, Cook began hurling abuse and resorted to aggression, pulling his partner’s hair. The mother, upon arrival with her partner, requested Cook to vacate the premises, but he brazenly refused. Cook then escalated the situation by brandishing the imitation firearm, instigating a standoff which ended with the mother promptly alerting the authorities. Cook’s attorney, Ian Durant, asserted that his client had matured during his time on remand, having served the equivalent of a ten-month sentence before the court hearing. Judge Gurdial Singh, recognising the severity of the offence but also considering Cook’s time served and his potential for rehabilitation, issued an 18-month community order. Cook is required to attend a Building Choices Programme and is prohibited from contacting his ex-partner or her mother directly or indirectly for three years.
