Immingham’s Able Humber Port Primed to Power Up 9,000 Jobs with UK’s First Offshore Wind Cluster

Able Humber Port (AHP), nestled in our very own Immingham, is chomping at the bit to become the UK’s maiden fully integrated offshore wind cluster port, a move set to whip up 9,000 jobs. The port’s development stands to unlock 2,000 construction positions and a whopping 7,000 enduring, high-quality roles spanning manufacturing, logistics and clean energy deployment by 2031. With the backing of the Government and regional bigwigs, Able Group is keen to fast track this project of national significance, accelerating the UK’s march towards a greener industrial future. This comes amid a cloud of uncertainty hanging over Scunthorpe steelworkers, as British Steel mulls over shutting its blast furnaces as early as June. Able UK’s top dog, Peter Stephenson, sees AHP as a lifeline for those likely to be hit by potential job cuts. The project promises to inject an additional £641m in private investment into AHP, bolstering advanced manufacturing capabilities with a keen eye on interest from major offshore wind manufacturers and developers globally. The Government’s return on investment from assisting with the quay’s development is expected to be substantial, to the tune of £2.2bn in tax revenues over 15 years and £4.3bn over 25 years. This doesn’t even account for the Crown Estate’s slice of the pie from offshore wind electricity generation. ‘The Humber can be the heart of a new wave of industrial opportunity. One that safeguards skilled jobs, fortifies UK energy security, and delivers Net Zero,’ declared Stephenson. The AHP and Able Energy Park project has been in the pipeline since 2009, and the energy park is already open for business, awaiting its inaugural occupants. Notably, AHP has also become a pioneering site as the location of a truck electric vehicle charging hub, launched just this March.
