Kathryn and Chris Allsopp, a husband-wife team from North Lincolnshire, have harnessed their shared nostalgia of good old-fashioned family game nights to create a booming enterprise. The couple’s business venture, The Brick Hut, began as a humble mobile hut brimming with Lego, a collection amassed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their unique concept caught on like wildfire, and soon their operation outgrew not one, but three mobile huts, leading them to set up shop on Kirton Lindsey’s High Street. The Brick Hut isn’t your typical toy shop; it’s a haven for game enthusiasts of all ages, offering a plethora of Lego sets, board games, and a cosy space to unwind and play. Kathryn fondly recalls her childhood memories of weekly family board game sessions and that’s the atmosphere they aspire to recreate. The shop has become a digital detox zone, with families fully immersed in the joy of play, their mobile phones forgotten. The Allsopps’ vision has been warmly embraced by the locals, with a staggering 90 patrons queuing at their grand opening in September. The shop’s success has even spurred plans for a second location. In addition to its regular trading hours, The Brick Hut hosts special events, like the upcoming Easter Egg hunt, and adult-only gaming nights on Fridays. Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts are catered for too. As Kathryn puts it, ‘We’re here to stay and we’re growing with the community.’
