Sleaford market’s recent relocation has been met with resounding applause, according to the council. In a twist of fate, the forced move to Eastgate car park sparked by a six-month overhaul of the original Market Place is now viewed as a blessing in disguise by traders and customers alike. North Kesteven District Council, responsible for the renovations last year, has left the market in its new location until further notice. The move has resulted in a surge in footfall and profits, even attracting new vendors to the bustling market scene. Sleaford Town Council, the market’s overseer, plans to hold the market in the car park every Monday, Friday, and Saturday, with an additional farmer’s market on the first Saturday of every month. The council is considering conducting a trader survey to understand if any incentives might draw them back to the original Market Place, but no immediate relocation plans are in the pipeline. The former car park area has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly plaza, ripe for events and al fresco dining. As we approached the 2024 General Election, the market’s removal ranked amongst the top concerns for Sleaford residents. NKDC leader, Councillor Richard Wright, expressed delight with Market Place’s transformation into a social hub, free from parked cars on weekends and key weekdays. Its new seating invites passersby to relax, take in the historic surroundings like the War Memorial and St Denys’ Church, and enjoy the burgeoning market and community events with an unobstructed view.
