Triple Speedway World Champ, Tai Woffinden, in Medically Induced Coma Post-Poland Crash

Triple world speedway champion, Tai Woffinden, 34, finds himself in a medically induced coma, following a ghastly crash at a race meeting in Poland, as per team officials. The Scunthorpe-born racer was representing his club, Rzeszow, when he collided with a teammate on Sunday. Following the incident, Woffinden was airlifted to a hospital where he underwent surgery for multiple fractures and a chest injury. He is currently on a ventilator in intensive care, confirmed the club. Woffinden, who had only recently returned to the track after a broken elbow prematurely ended his 2024 season, was also slated to ride for the Sheffield Tigers in the British Speedway Premiership against Birmingham later this week. The South Yorkshire club has requested fans to refrain from circulating rumours about the crash, respecting Woffinden and his family. Woffinden, with three Grand Prix world titles under his belt (2013, 2015 and 2018), is one of Britain’s most adorned speedway riders. Rob Godfrey, promoter of the Scunthorpe Scorpions where Woffinden kick-started his career back in 2006, expressed that the entire speedway world is hoping for his swift recovery. Wolverhampton Wolves, another club where Woffinden previously rode, conveyed their best wishes for a speedy recovery on social media.
