The youth of Grimsby have something to cheer about as the Horizon Youth Zone, soon to be a new addition to the town’s skyline, has reached an incredible construction milestone. The final building’s roofline has now been completed, marking a significant step forward in the project. Located on Garth Lane, the centre is set to be a haven of inspiration and safety for youngsters aged 8 to 19, and even up to 25 for those with additional needs. With over 20 activities planned for each evening, the centre is brimming with opportunities for leisure and learning. The charity OnSide is spearheading the project, repurposing the historic 19th century West Haven Maltings and Migar House buildings. The transformations are being carried out in collaboration with North East Lincolnshire Council, the Department of Culture Media and Sport, and local construction firm Hobson & Porter. The site is set to open its doors this autumn, and will feature a large outdoor multi-use games area among its amenities. The project has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the Grimsby community, with the centre expected to make a huge difference to the lives of local youths. Once operational, the Horizon Youth Zone will join the OnSide network of 15 Youth Zones across the country, supporting over 50,000 young people each year. It’s projected that Horizon could benefit up to 4,000 young people from North East Lincolnshire annually.
