Lib Dem’s Trevor Young Enters the Fray for Lincolnshire’s Top Job

The political landscape of Lincolnshire is abuzz as Trevor Young, the leader of West Lindsey District Council, dons his running shoes for the Greater Lincolnshire Mayoral race. Representing the Liberal Democrats, Councillor Young is the latest entrant, making him the sixth contender vying for the county’s top dog position next month. Young, known for his relentless service to the Gainsborough South West ward since 1995 and his influential role in the NHS, has laid out his game plan. He’s pledged to tackle the cost of living crisis, secure a just deal for rural communities and farmers, and lure more investment into the county. His leadership tenure at West Lindsey District Council since May 2023 has been marked by his tenacious fight over the future of the former RAF Scampton. The forthcoming elections on May 1 promise the victor not only increased powers from the government but also an annual kitty of £24m. Young has thrown down the gauntlet to both Labour and Conservative governments, accusing them of neglecting Lincolnshire. He believes the upcoming election needs a Mayor with the ability and gusto to wield the role for Lincolnshire’s betterment, not just for political showboating. According to Young, the Tories have long overlooked the area and their woeful stint at the helm of the country still ruffles feathers amongst residents county-wide. As for the new Labour government, Young feels they are deaf to the concerns of Lincolnshire’s residents. He advocates that only the Lib Dems are championing their cause. The Lib Dems, he asserts, have a strategic plan to kickstart the local economy and will battle for their fair slice of the funding pie to address issues like flooding, dilapidated roads, and failing transport systems. Young is confident the Lib Dems are the top pick for this election, promising a square deal for the community and a strong message to the Labour government. Joining him in the race are Sally Horscroft (Green), Andrea Jenkyns (Reform UK), Marianne Overton (Independent), Jason Stockwood (Labour), and Rob Waltham (Conservative).
