The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH), constituents of the NHS Humber Health Partnership, have once again made us proud. For five consecutive years, these health bodies have had their endometriosis centres accredited by the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE), ensuring top-notch care for patients in the Humber region. Endometriosis, a condition characterised by womb-like tissue growth in other body parts, can lead to intense pelvic pain, discomfort during sex and periods, bowel pain, and urinary issues. The recommended treatment, surgery for deep endometriosis, is sophisticated and thus, should be performed in accredited centres, as per National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. Heidi Boldock, a patient who underwent a life-altering surgery at the Scunthorpe General Hospital, can’t sing enough praises for the treatment she received. According to her, the procedure took her from a ’10’ on the pain scale to a blissful zero. She advises others to visit their GP if they suspect they have a problem, as early diagnosis is crucial. Victoria Puckering, another patient treated at the Hull centre, was equally impressed with the treatment she received. She believes that the BSGE accreditation instils confidence in patients that they’re in expert hands. Victoria, who currently works for the charity Endo Buddies, believes there’s still a long way to go in raising awareness about endometriosis. The local NHS trusts’ fifth consecutive accreditation is a testament to their dedication, skill, and teamwork, according to Miss Preeti Gandhi, lead consultant gynaecologist for endometriosis and advanced laparoscopy services at NLaG. Mrs Jane Allen, one of the consultants at HUTH, lauded the recognition, saying it is proof of their commitment to providing the best treatment for patients with deep and complex endometriosis.
