As industry workers from the energy sector gear up to take a swing against loneliness, the National Gas Transmission colleagues in Lincolnshire are putting together a charity golf day. The event is aimed at raising vital funds for Andy’s Man Club while addressing a critical mental health concern that affects many – loneliness. The goal is to also shed light on the troublingly high suicide rates amongst young men.
Jez Waters, the mechanical operations engineer at Hatton Compressor Station and the lead organiser of the event, said: “We’ve previously organised coffee mornings and lunches to combat loneliness, but it’s not just about having people around you, it’s about having people you can confide in.”
The much-anticipated charity golf event, set to take place from noon on Friday, June 20, at Kenwick Park, will include an 18-hole four ball better ball golf competition. All participants will enjoy coffee, a bacon bun and a fish and chip supper. Prizes will be awarded for the nearest pin and longest drive, with a whopping £5,000 cheque up for grabs for a hole-in-one.
Local businesses are being encouraged to form teams and provide sponsorship, with the option of sponsoring a tee with a team for £300 or offering pure sponsorship for £100. Technica, a Grimsby-based, multi-discipline engineering firm is already on board, with group managing director John Davison expressing excitement for the event.
If you wish to contribute donations, sponsorship, or raffle prizes, the deadline for entries is May 31. For more information, get in touch with Zac.Cole@nationalgas.com or Jeremy.Waters@nationalgas.com.
