Several companies have made their interest known in taking over the Yarborough and Birchwood leisure centres in Lincoln, following their abrupt closure last week. The centres were previously run by Active Nation on behalf of the City of Lincoln Council before it unexpectedly ceased trading, leaving numerous sports clubs in a lurch. The council has been optimistic about finding a new provider and is in the midst of internal consultations. Social enterprise GLL, which operates the One NK sports centre in North Hykeham, has also expressed potential interest. The closures have affected numerous local teams and groups, with youth football matches relocated and rollerskating group SK8s forced to cancel its Yarborough events. The local council is understood to be poised to reclaim the buildings early this week once Active Nation is officially in administration. The council had previously offered Active Nation a support package of around £500,000 in January, which was turned down. A spokesperson for the council acknowledged the impact of the closures on the local community and advised Active Nation customers with pre-paid memberships to reach out to their bank or card provider or wait for the appointment of a liquidator/administrator.
