Charity Commission Probes Sudden Closure of Lincoln Leisure Centres

The Charity Commission has begun an investigation into Active Nation, the charity responsible for the abrupt closure of Yarborough and Birchwood leisure centres in Lincoln. Active Nation suddenly ceased operations, attributing the closure to the ongoing utility crisis and its associated challenges. The Commission is presently examining concerns surrounding Active Nation’s governance and financial management. There are growing apprehensions about unpaid salaries and pre-paid fees among the staff and members of the gyms. Active Nation is yet to comment on the situation. The City of Lincoln Council, owner of the facilities, is in discussions with potential alternate providers, expressing confidence in finding a suitable replacement. However, the employees of the centres are in a state of uncertainty. Elaine Richardson, a gym instructor at Yarborough for nearly nine years, is unsure if she will receive her salary for April, having last been paid in March. Dan Miller, a body pump instructor, expressed frustration at the lack of communication regarding the closure and its implications for the staff. He hopes that a new provider will take over soon, recognising the value of the centre to the local community.
