Scunthorpe Bingo Hall Conversion Plan Rebuffed

Councillors have rejected a contentious proposal to transform Scunthorpe’s sole bingo hall into a self-storage facility. Located on Brigg Road, the premises has seen more than a hundred objections to the change of use, including from the tenant, Buzz Bingo. Despite a councillor suggesting Buzz Bingo should consider relocating, the planning committee of the North Lincolnshire Council refused to allow the conversion. Objector Cheryl Stocks underscored the importance of the venue, which caters to a large number of people, arguing that the council should support its continued operation. Buzz Bingo has sought smaller, alternative locations in the town centre, potentially creating scope for regeneration. However, Cllr John Davison proposed refusal of the conversion, asserting that it contradicted the council’s local plan strategy. Cllr Max Bell also expressed concern over the potential job losses this change could bring, particularly given the already looming loss of 2,700 jobs on Brigg Road.
