An alarming discovery was made by local litter-picking volunteers in Ashby’s Everest Park, where over 150 discarded dog poo bags were found scattered across the playing fields. Despite the presence of conveniently placed bins, irresponsible pet owners have chosen to shirk their duties, leaving their bagged waste to befoul the area. Alongside this, the Scunthorpe Litterpickers unearthed 25 bags filled with an assortment of litter, including a motorcycle helmet and a crisp packet from 2002. Healey Road Park also suffered from a similar issue, with 41 bags of dog waste collected over the same weekend. Tracey, a dedicated member of the Scunthorpe Litterpickers, expressed her disgust, stating: ‘This is shocking and irresponsible. This is a children’s park. It’s disgusting behaviour.’ Councillor David Rose, cabinet member for environment at North Lincolnshire Council, sternly warned against such behaviour, reiterating that fines will be imposed on those caught littering. He emphasised that the responsibility of waste disposal lies with the individual, and not with the selfless volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the parks clean. To join the fight against litter and help organise community clean-ups, the council can be contacted for bags and equipment. More information on how to become a part of Scunthorpe Litterpickers’ volunteer team is available on their Facebook page.
