Humber region’s business leaders are making a renewed case for a unified investment strategy from the future mayors of the area. May 1 will see the election of Mayors for Greater Lincolnshire, Hull, and East Yorkshire. Six candidates are running for office in Greater Lincolnshire, representing the Conservatives, Green Party, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Lincolnshire Independents, and Reform UK. The victor will head the newly-formed Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority, with an annual budget of £24m for influencing areas like economic development, skills, and transport. A high-level roundtable was recently held by Humber businesses, advocating for a collective approach to investment, infrastructure, and economic growth in the region. The roundtable was chaired by Henri Murison, CEO of Northern Powerhouse Partnership, with key contributions from Andrew Dawes, ABP’s regional director, and Damian Meehan from Arcadis. All agreed on the importance of pan-Humber collaboration, delivery of crucial infrastructure, and the need to foster a skills pipeline to support industries like offshore wind. Both Dawes and Murison stressed the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors to harness the potential of the Humber region and secure long-term investment.
