Reckless Driver Consumes Nine Pints, Crashes and Lands Himself Behind Bars

Thomas Doran, 40, from Keighley, West Yorkshire, has been sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment after a senseless and selfish act that resulted in a serious road accident on the A18 near Scunthorpe. On the fateful evening of February 25, 2023, after consuming an excessive nine pints of stout, Doran made the reckless decision to drive his white Ford Transit van, ultimately causing a crash that left his passenger severely injured. Doran’s reckless driving caused the van to spin, throwing a woman seated on an impromptu chair without a seatbelt onto the harsh road, resulting in grave head injuries. Making matters worse, Doran assaulted a paramedic who was attempting to provide crucial care to the injured woman. Doran was found to be nearly double the legal alcohol limit and was subsequently arrested, although he refused to provide a blood sample for further alcohol analysis. Humberside Police’s Roads Policing Team’s investigation involved comprehensive CCTV enquiries, revealing that Doran had been drinking at a pub just a mile from the crash site. Officer Wade Cruse reminded the public of the harrowing consequences of drink and drug driving and urged everyone to report any road traffic offences and dangerous driving to the police.
