Cleethorpes Bar and Restaurant ‘Folk’ Sees Licence Renewed Despite Noise Concerns

In spite of community objections over noise and public disorder, the popular Cleethorpes bar and restaurant, Folk, has had its alcohol licence renewed. Following the expiration of its previous licence due to its owning company dissolving, Folk had been operating on a temporary licence. The renewed licence permits alcohol sales from 10am to midnight, Sunday to Wednesday, and 9am to midnight, Thursday to Saturday, although Folk’s advertised closing times remain somewhat earlier. Most conditions from the previous licence still apply, including requirements for a CCTV system, prohibiting customers from taking drinks outside, keeping doors and windows closed after 10pm, and displaying signage requesting customers respect neighbourhood tranquillity. The venue’s external rear courtyard can now be used by customers until 10pm, an extension of an hour from the previous rule. Humberside Police’s requests concerning drug policy and the availability of substantial food until an hour before the end of alcohol sales were also approved. Despite the fact that five representations against the licence renewal cited noise and public disorder concerns, the council report indicates there have been merely three reported incidents of crime or antisocial behaviour at Folk in the past two years and no active noise complaints. This news comes as local MP Melanie Onn voices concerns about the increasing number of AirBnBs in nearby Sea View Street, stating it’s affecting local businesses and the local tourist trade.
