Green Light for Expansion of Stallingborough’s Green Skills Training Centre

Expansion plans for a cutting-edge green skills training centre in North East Lincolnshire have received the seal of approval. The Catch site in Stallingborough has been granted permission to construct an industrial decarbonisation centre and a renewable energy training centre. The brains behind the project assert that these facilities will be instrumental in providing the necessary skills for the UK’s net-zero infrastructure. The thumbs-up from North East Lincolnshire Council came on Friday, with both centres expected to be operational by 2026. Catch, which kicked off its apprenticeship scheme in 2021, is backed by investments from notable partners such as Associated British Ports and Humber Freeport. Catch’s CEO, David Talbot, expressed excitement over the new phase of their ambition to train 1,000 apprentices annually by 2030. The renewable energy training centre will boast classrooms and custom-built workshops for hands-on training for technicians and operators, while the decarbonisation centre will feature a lecture theatre and office space. Simon Green, Humber Freeport’s CEO, emphasised the crucial role of facilities like Catch in preparing a future workforce capable of meeting the demands of the fast-evolving green skills sector. Earlier this year, the government unveiled plans to invest in green-skills training to back the transition to clean power, promising ‘thousands’ of new jobs. Aberdeen, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, and Pembrokeshire were pinpointed as key growth areas for clean energy.
