Revitalisation on Horizon for Gainsborough’s Long-Abandoned Wasteland

A derelict plot of land in Gainsborough, which has been left untouched since 2008, could soon be given a new lease of life. The overgrown area on North Street, adjacent to the former Friendship Inn, has lain dormant for over a decade after previous attempts at redevelopment were abandoned. However, plans have now been submitted for the site’s transformation into supported living accommodation. Amaana Homes, the property developer behind the new proposal, has set its sights on clearing the blight and erecting a modern development. The project includes 16 one-bedroom flats, to be administered by a housing provider. The dilapidated remnants of the prior project will be demolished to make way for the new three-storey structures on the north and south sides. The former host building, a grand three-storey edifice that once functioned as a hotel, has recently been converted into flats. The plans are now awaiting approval from the West Lindsey District Council. The Friendship Hotel, whose current structure dates back to the 1920s, closed its doors in 2000 and was subsequently turned into apartments.
