Crucial Lincolnshire Reservoir Project Advances Amid Local Concerns

Anglian Water is moving ahead with survey operations for a proposed reservoir in Lincolnshire. The project, if approved, could impact five square kilometres near Scredington, affecting a minimum of 15 residential properties and farms. Implementation of the proposal is not immediate, as the company plans to submit the planning application in 2028. If successful, construction could potentially start in 2031.

These surveys are a crucial step in collecting important data about the land and its environment, which will ultimately shape the design of the project. Residents have been given assurances that these surveys do not mean the start of construction.

Anglian Water perceives the reservoir to be vital for the driest region in the UK, and enjoys the support of Chancellor Rachel Reeves. The future remains uncertain for residents who might be affected by the proposal, with concerns about the potential difficulty to sell their properties and the risk of compulsory purchases if the plans continue to advance.

Mark Thurston, Chief Executive of Anglian Water, highlighted the critical need for enhanced water infrastructure to facilitate growth and tackle climate change. He used the instances of recent extreme weather events as compelling evidence to emphasise the urgency of this investment.
