Marvin Scampion, a 48-year-old individual from Spalding, has been awarded a 19-year prison sentence following a guilty verdict for the sexual abuse of two children. Scampion refuted nine charges leveled at him but was found guilty at the conclusion of a fortnight-long trial at Lincoln Crown Court. The charges raised to him involved a boy and a girl, both below the age of 13. He was acquitted of one sexual assault charge. A moving impact statement from one of the victims revealed the loss of their childhood due to the abuse.
Scampion was apprehended in January 2020 subsequent to one of the victims sharing their ordeal with school authorities. The victims, both presently adults, bravely provided testimonies in court, giving accounts of the enduring psychological trauma inflicted by the abuse. The male victim expressed his life had been devastated by the experience, while the female victim articulated current struggles with panic attacks and nightmares. She resolutely affirmed that Scampion would not strip her of her bravery.
Despite admitting to an addiction to adult content, Scampion dismissed any links it may have had with his actions. The charges encompassed four offences against the boy that took place between 2008 and 2011, and two offences against the girl occurring between 2015 and 2016. Further convictions included engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and enacting cruelty involving a knife. Judge James House KC underscored the lifelong repercussions for the victims, providing directives for Scampion to be added to the lifetime sex offenders register. Upon release, he will also be bound to an extended license period of 12 months and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order along with a restraining order.
