Title: Melanie Onn Advocates Against Excessive A180 Noise
Melanie Onn, Member of Parliament for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, is spearheading a campaign to combat the excessive noise levels emanating from the A180. Onn has initiated a petition calling for measures to alleviate what she terms as ‘entirely intolerable’ noise pollution. The ‘Fix the A180’ initiative aims to mitigate the noise disruption distressing local inhabitants and bolster the driving conditions on the bustling highway.
The push towards noise reduction follows Onn’s previous endeavours, where she broached the issue in Parliament last September. Onn underscored how inefficient transport infrastructure is impeding the economic advancement of northern Lincolnshire. Fresh data uncovered by National Highways disclose that noise levels on the A180 can surge to 82 decibels, veering close to the 85-decibels limit earmarked by the Royal National Institute for Deaf People as potentially damaging to hearing following sustained exposure.
Onn expressed her apprehensions stating, ‘The circumstances surrounding the A180 are simply deplorable. If such levels of noise occurred within a workplace setting, it would be justly subject to a hearing risk investigation. Residents should not have to endure what essentially amounts to industrial-scale noise pollution from a public road.’
National Highways has acknowledged the petition. A representative affirmed the continuation of resurfacing works aimed at augmenting the road’s lifespan by five years. Actions taken recently included overnight closures in March for facilitating repairs.
The local community is urged to back the petition, ensuring their grievances are not eclipsed by the persistent clamour of the A180.
