Title: Lincoln Events Commit to Enhanced Accessibility for Concerts
In response to previous incidences of accessibility issues at the Live at Lincoln Castle concerts, improvements have been pledged for future events. Richard Adams, a wheelchair user and advocate for individuals with disabilities in Lincoln, shared a harrowing experience which he described as ‘dangerous and unpleasant’ at last year’s Kaiser Chiefs concert, owing to unsuitable facilities. Subsequently, comprehensive changes have been plotted for 2024, following dialogues with event organisers Cuffe & Taylor. Included in these changes are a relocated accessible area close to entrances, higher platforms for improved stage visibility, and a new service offering beverages directly to seats.
Hazel May Michael, another frequent concert attendee, recalls the significant hurdles she encountered when manoeuvring her mobility scooter through power cables during a Madness concert. However, with transformations in the pipeline, she expresses hope for her forthcoming attendance at a Rag’N’Bone Man concert and is keen to evaluate the improvements in both vendor access and sightlines.
The organisers, Cuffe & Taylor, have affirmed that Minster Yard shall serve as the revised pick-up and drop-off location, ensuring smoother site access for guests with disabilities. A team, dedicated to assisting disabled and neurodivergent attendees, will be stationed on-site. This move indicates a positive shift towards a more inclusive concert experience at Lincoln Castle.
