Spalding Man Sentenced to 19 Years for Heinous Child Sex Crimes

Marvin Scampion, a resident of Spalding, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found guilty of numerous sex offences involving two children. Following a fortnight-long trial at Lincoln Crown Court, the 48-year-old individual from Edward Road was convicted for nine offences. Yet, the jury acquitted him of a sexual assault charge after lengthy deliberation.

Scampion was first apprehended in January 2020 after one of the young victims bravely revealed their ordeal to school authorities. Both victims showed heroic courage by presenting evidence in court. As a result, Scampion was convicted on four counts related to a boy under 13, inclusive of attempted rape and causing a child to watch a sexual act, incidents that took place between 2008 and 2011.

Scampion was also convicted guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, in addition to other offences committed between 2015 and 2016. His list of crimes further extends to an act of cruelty toward a child below 16 involving a knife.

As mitigating measures, Scampion faces life on the sex offenders register, an extended licence period following release, and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order instituted to protect his victims. Detective Constable Caroline Pendell extolled the victims’ bravery, stating that their testimonies were crucial in achieving justice.

This case underscores the criticality of reporting abuse and shines a light on the combined efforts of law enforcement and support agencies. Victims and survivors are urged to seek support and report any incidents to assure their safety and justice.
