A couple from Corby Glen are urgently trying to secure £10,000 to save their precious feline, Tinkerbell, following a severe hit-and-run incident that occurred on Easter Sunday. Owners Sarah Stacey and Antony, who offered refuge to Tinkerbell just a year ago, are striving to gather the necessary funds for her crucial operation.
Tinkerbell, who Sarah affectionately describes as “the heart of our household,” has grown to be an essential part of their day-to-day life. From joining the couple in activities such as gardening and workouts to accompanying them on local walks, her constant absence since the unfortunate event has been deeply sensed and has taken precedence over all other matters.
The details of the accident came to light on April 20th. A neighbour alerted the couple of the incident following a witness account of Tinkerbell being hit by a fast-moving black car on Bourne Road. Despite Tinkerbell coming out from a hedge, the car did not stop. However, the eyewitness did stop and assisted the couple in finding Tinkerbell, who was found lying in a bush nearby.
Taken straight to an emergency vet consultation, the cat, merely 18 months old, underwent immediate treatment. Morphine and an X-ray highlighted the severity of her condition. By 10pm, Sarah and Antony received the distressing revelation that Tinkerbell required expert care for the inflicted damage to her pelvis and lower spine and a lung bruise.
Lacking pet insurance, the couple found themselves faced with intimidating costs, having already expended £1,500 on preliminary treatment. The cost of the surgical procedure and subsequent treatment comes to £8,500. Nonetheless, Sarah was resolute in her decision to fight for Tinkerbell’s life because of her tender age and the happiness she brings to their household.
To raise the needed funds, the couple opted to start a GoFundMe campaign, encountering an outpouring of generosity from the community in doing so. Sarah showed appreciation for the community’s support as Tinkerbell remains hospitalised in a sedated condition. Their circumstance has drawn out the community’s strong spirit of unity, providing encouragement during this challenging period.
