Scunthorpe Bids Farewell to Motorcycling Legend Alan Hunt

The Scunthorpe motorbike community is in mourning following the loss of esteemed figure, Alan Hunt, who died at the age of 86. Alan, remembered as a “true gent”, significantly shaped the local motorbike community through his dedicated work as the proprietor of Brian Lee Motorcycles and subsequently as the Chairman and President of the Scunthorpe Motor Cycle Club. Over a duration of 35 years, he cultivated a love for motorcycling, particularly amongst young enthusiasts, through his involvement with the Auto-Cycle Union’s Youth Committee.

Beyond the motorbiking world, Alan’s generous spirit resonated with many. His daughter Paula recalls fondly his characteristic humour and nurturing nature, seen most profoundly in caring for his late wife Kay during her fight against Alzheimer’s. His skills in the kitchen flourished during his retirement years, where he expressed his love through carefully prepared home-cooked meals.

A true pioneer, Alan advocated for women in motorcycling. His lasting influence is reflected in the skills he imparted to his daughters and granddaughters. His contribution to history is commemorated in the donation of vintage Motor Club shields to Scunthorpe Museum.

The current Chairman of the Scunthorpe Motor Cycle Club, Scott Witting, and photographer John Wilkinson, amongst others, remember Alan as a much-loved friend and significant figure. The community is invited to pay tribute to Alan at Woodlands Crematorium, Scunthorpe, on April 30 at 10.40am, with donations requested for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
