Concerning Rise in Self-Harm Admissions Across Lincolnshire

Title: Alarming Increase in Self-Harm Hospital Admissions Throughout Lincolnshire

Recent statistics regarding hospital admissions related to self-harm in Lincolnshire shed light on a growing issue of concern. The figures, covering the financial period from April 2023 to March 2024, were made public on 18th February 2025. These statistics show that there were 755 hospital admissions from local residents due to self-inflicted harm, outlining a troubling trend especially among women, who account for 505 of these admissions.

The data presents a recurring issue across different parts of Lincolnshire. For instance, East Lindsey saw the most significant number of cases, with 170 admissions and an alarmingly disproportionate rate among females, which stands at 193.5 per 100,000 people. Whilst North Kesteven’s statistics show a slightly lower rate of 73.3, it remains a problem requiring serious attention.

In contrast, Boston recorded 80 admissions, whereas Lincoln reported 125 cases, demonstrating that this issue affects every part of the county. These statistics emphasise the pressing requirement for community-centred interventions and mental health support.

These figures, whilst challenging, raise an important question: how can we improve our support for people in Lincolnshire who are struggling? This becomes a mandate for local communities, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to address this serious issue with the urgency it requires.

The data was sourced from Lincolnshire County Council’s open datasets.
