In an encouraging narrative, 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris-Sampson, hailing from Holbeach, Lincolnshire, is all set to participate in the imminent London Marathon happening this Sunday. Aiming to influence others to chase their dreams, regardless of the impediments, Elizabeth, diagnosed with glaucoma, will be guided through the course by her mother, Marie Sampson, 47. Not new to overcoming hurdles, Marie has completed the marathon twice before, despite her struggles with cataracts.
Interestingly, Elizabeth wasn’t always a keen runner. However, her belief that unyielding determination can overcome any obstacle keeps her motivated. She is quoted as saying, ‘If you put your mind to it and work hard, you can do anything.’ The build-up to the marathon has not been a smooth sailing for her, with a strained foot, eye surgeries, and endometriosis treatments adding to her challenges. Nevertheless, she remains unshaken.
Marie will accompany Elizabeth through the 26.2-mile long course, using a hand-carted strap to assure her safety, amidst the sea of runners and their accompanying hurdles. Elizabeth is undertaking this challenge to support the charity ‘Sense’. With a pledge to raise £1,950 via her JustGiving page, she exemplifies the spirit of tenacity and optimism.
