Beelsby Model Flying Club will stage a re-enaction of the fateful Battle of Britain Memorial Flight over the North Lincolnshire horizon. The Warbird Weekend, as this event is celebrated, is to be held at the club’s distinctively L-shaped field near Waltham, located just of the A18, commencing this weekend. Over 50 extensive model planes, including duplicates of two Lancasters, a pair of Hurricanes, and five Spitfires, promise to captivate enthusiasts.
James Carter, a three-year veteran of the club, explained the inherent advantages of this hobby, he commented, ‘This fantastic pastime encourages people, particularly youngsters, to venture outdoors and embrace fresh air.’ Established four decades ago, Beelsby Model Flying Club invites members as youthful as six and as mature as over 80, it also offers training in the art of crafting and piloting radio-controlled aircraft.
The club sports a dedicated hangar where enthusiasts are able to securely store their treasured models, further illustrating the admirable commitment of the club’s members. Spectators are welcome with events drawing crowds who take pleasure in observing from a safe distance. On the 17th of May, the club will hold an engaging public event where newcomers will be given the opportunity to pilot a model aircraft, under the watchful eye and instruction of experienced club members.
At present, 15 participants have already registered with limited places remaining. The success of this endeavour has the potential to bring about a host of similar events in times to come.
