North East Lincolnshire has been identified as a hotspot for stalking and harassment in England and Wales, as data uncovers an astonish high crime rate. The year up to September 2024 saw 3,353 reported cases, which means that one in every 48 residents have been a victim, as reported by the Office for National Statistics. These statistics are even more jump out as we observe National Stalking Awareness Week, highlighting the gravity of such offences. Local MP Melanie Onn has labelled these statistics as a ‘wake-up call’ and underscored the necessity for unceasing governmental action to counter these crimes. Jonathan Evison, Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, noted that although the numbers are worrying, they signify a rise in victim confidence to report such incidents. The implementation of Raneem’s Law, aiming to station domestic abuse specialists in emergency control rooms, is a considerable improvement in victim support. In continual efforts, Humberside Police is encouraging victims to report their experiences and has enforced 49 Stalking Protection Orders across the area.
